Four Poems, Roshan Ali Jan (Translated by Dr. Yousef Hanna)

I'm frighten of the last stab

Oh, Autumn...
Tell me how to kick the world
Tell me how to trade
The serenity of water, dwelling my soul, with the curse of wine
How to leave the delicacy of time
Sans breaking the water surface
Oh, Autumn...
This yellow means nothing to me
Let me survive the insanity of staining
This abusive color with lust confuses me
Just as your footsteps on the cliff
I'm not dead yet
Teach me how to restore the imagination of the sea
to jump over the beads of speech
Teach me flitting with the chestnut impetuosity
As though I'm a ballerina
I'm afraid of the last stab
I fear the rituals of myth
Endowing the wounding slash
for the poem's agony
Long-time, I have been sustaining my stature with buddies' gasp
Leaning on the morning hedge
like a mimosa flower
So eagerly from the imagination of bronze
I bind the thread of life to gods' eyes

Ibex fleeing from Violins

With her astonished eyes
measuring the bare distance of stray prairie
A woman, branded by defenseless color of henna
The preys of fear are trembling deep within her
and the sightless violet roams.
She grabs reeds of eternal springs,
Throws her flaming Kurdish shawl
with rainbow over the sunflowers
Scatters the loose breeze with her tender hands.
The fairy bird takes wings
soaring closer to her braids' nectar
narrating the pain of wildflowers.
It is absence ..
The delusion of enduring trees
Bare trees like two tremulous lovers
shivering such as a fig whilst kisses
droning with a hoarse voice, ballads of nostalgia.
Long ago It was burning in my heart
I am the one emaciated ..
Tautened by the wild ibex' sway
Ibex fleeing from the uproar of violins
while weeping for the outsider's grief.

One more day

Like an angel's quiver you awaken the allure of grass
Alongside a broken branch opinionates April
This is an evening of love
I'll open a new window for air
Acacia trees and stars
Bronze Fist of the Captive Door
I whisper in your ears the hum of rain
flooding dreams and all time is mine.
I'm back to you again
And at the unique moment I'll embrace the water lilies
Before it falls asleep at the vigilant night
Here you are lustfully melting in the chalice of sanctities.
I'm so wasted,
fraught with flower of oblivion.

Picking

Where we were...
It was only gleaming green
And cornices of ancient stone
There...
Water shivering in frosting puddles
White words grope its way back in darkness
The faint, shy air freezes very still
among the sleeping shadows.
***
The morning star of bygone autumn
Your dark hair the same as a long night
Your braids will grow on my arms
And there will be no sand to wear your feet down
As you float at dusk, on the sea
Finally...
I'll pick the chestnut color from your eyes
whilst you’re closer to my breath
And we'll together dance the waltz.

Selected Works, Angela Acosta

Mourning at Dawn

I want to know that you were with me,
the night I sped down the highway into morning,
hoping that the mourning would cascade into memories
but I was numb.
The lock on, the love on, the Velcro of hugging skin
vanished quicker than the city lights near Hartford.

The dawn awaits only me,
a truth lodged deep in my sore throat
where I keep parts of you
from bobbing up at stoplights.

Returning home is only the illusion of loneliness
because two arms never held four walls and a roof.

Our Queer Home in Space

In the doldrums of the twentieth century,
writers and artists dreamed up the impossible,
wishing for safe havens for queer and trans youth,
exchanging the epidemic of queer death for
queer time travel, sending us to livable queer futures.

Once we cracked open the binary,
we freed ourselves from gravity,
learned how to exist in bodies we’ve wanted since birth,
inherited knowledges from our elders to break Western epistemes
that gave us labels that could not recognize the diversity of our very existence.

Our futures were created by our elders,
by countless generations living in the wrong story,
writing new possibilities in their minds and diaries in the dead of night,
traveling not in a straight line,
but folding the fabric of queer time
to find a place of refuge for our kind.

Earthbound

I am among the earthbound,
never to plant a flag on another planet,
I am engrained within this 1g ecosystem
among the billions who inhabit spaceship Earth.

I am in good company,
all of humanity’s saints and sinners
lay under my feet,
covered in plants grown with the energy of Sol.

I live at a time when I have no option to leave,
no near-light speed travel, no hypersleep,
or the cold grip of the metal harness of my first off-world shuttle,
no miraculous life-extending technology to make it across the Milky Way.

We can’t all leave
and what awaits us requires the resources
of the lifetimes and imaginations of billions,
generations of preparation and impending tragedies.

May our children inherit the Earth,
may we continue to bathe in the Mediterranean
while brave souls sample alien oceans on super Earths,
may we console the families of those light years away,
while herds still roam the savannahs and prairies.

If the Earth is truly an oasis in space,
then may we the Earthbound keep it safe,
may it not merely be a hovel of misery
of the unfortunate and underprivileged,
but an option gifted from our ancestors.

Dejando huellas

Nunca he tenido raíces fuertes

Leaving Footprints

The wise say there are places
where one feels most at peace,
but what goes unspoken
is that it is a lifelong search.

I thought that I would find my perfect ecosystem
in a Florida swamp inhabited by alligators
and Spanish moss on the campus of the University of Florida.
I thought that I would find it on top of a hill next to the Pacific Ocean
near my grandparents’ house on the Central Coast of California
that offers a panorama of a glimpsed aquatic world.

When I was twenty-three, I left my footprints
on the solid ground of the Iberian Peninsula.
I took a piece of earth in my hands
and I knew with all certainty that it was there where I belong,
in a corner of the Castilian Meseta.

My ancestors come from both sides
of the Atlantic, from histories
of the colonizers and colonized alike,
with me being the only surviving fluent Spanish speaker.

I’ve never had strong roots
given the dozens of interwoven histories of my family,
but in the outskirts of Madrid,
alone at San Lorenzo de El Escorial
I found my balance with Mother Earth.

It wasn’t just mere curiosity for Spanish culture
as a tourist, nor was it even
an obsession with the language.
It was more, the intuition of a human being.

When I see the bright sun upon
landing in Spain, I know it is there I want to be.
I want to feel the light breeze on my arms
and the dry air flowing through the olive trees
just as my favorite poets describe.

My footprints get covered by rain and leaves,
and I have to return to the United States,
but for a moment I join in union with the earth,
in a fleeting moment of terrestrial connection.

The poem is an amazement, Onfwan Fouad (Translated by Dr. Yousef Hanna)

(Excerpt of a dialogue with a woman who dedicates her fingers for metaphor).

- Come, let us suppose that language is an old wound on the waist of a lonely woman, and that a stab in the throat at night was the cause of all these colloquial songs.

Do you remember the first blood that flowed within your forefinger and thumb? To hug a white paper?

- Poetry opens like a wound, and alike the rest of things unfold. This existence is a wound, and we are its scab, whenever the one of us suffers, that wound would be incited.

The first blood that flowed from my body when I was a child would quickly stumble with the void, gravity embracing her all the time. It was a deep wound on the knee, and after that the falls successively continued to this very day.

I remember being in pain then, but soon the pain turned into a strange pleasure, and I experienced feeling a pain that cannot be summed up in a few words.

Since then, my friendship with blood started. The second station was what have flowed from between my thighs without any streamside to gather, or any stone on which I could stand before drowning in the stream of astonishment. I had no prior awareness of that river that is pouring every month, no one told me about.

Regarding the blood of writing, it is white, so white, that secret writing that requires an intellectual effort to encrypt what should be, and reveal what should not.

As for the whiteness, it is an area fenced with margins that needs an effort to blur it with colors, or a temporary pleasure at the moment of turning it over, and plowing it with words and meanings that need a sharp and serious scythe to harvest it later.

As Roland Barthes said, "Writing is frightening; it grows like a seed, and it keeps threatening to reveal a secret.”

Whiteness also does that to me and more...

“Just fill the crack with gold water”

It's not important

No problem tearing up the happy picture I posted,

There is no problem in breaking beauty as a precious piece

Then fill the fractions with boiling water with gold.

It really doesn't matter

But I did it...

But I broke it.

Because a month ago

I couldn't smile like that

unconditionally

I was scared of someone would see through me

What I do hide from me

What I'm hiding from you

I was afraid of people

Like a raped child who did not read about the doctrine of the scandal

I was sick of the light

Like a retired bat out of the dark

I used to be…

And I think I still am.

It's an impasse being afraid of breathing shadows

Exhausting to drink on an empty stomach your fear.

The big deal is

Although I didn't mean to see what you were telling me,

However, I still commit it.

Do you know what our problem is?

Seeing that happy picture on your lit screen

In your heart sparkle

In a word under your tongue...

That picture made me feel; for the first time;

Since I was happy after you

And that cut wrists will make me

Appear better.

Mercy dog

Mercy dog addicted to gouging out his eyes

Take off your head

Sorry, I mean your invisible hat

Then pluck your mind out very carefully

Put it in a sealed box

And read the moon talisman

Hang that gut on the clothesline.

Regain our consciousness

In the chill room

Our gazes are fixed on the door of nothingness.

Not exactly

The word stuck on the top of your forehead

Is disobedient to devour the wings inside me

(Paper, Stone, Scissors) *

The stone cracked the head of speech

The scissors raped the silence

The paper aborted the story.

The way to you

Devoid of signals

Your shadow leaned on a snake skin.

Shake my hand

Thus, mummified dragonflies raid us.

You can drink the juice of your visions with closed eyes

The eye rests from overturning of events

Inside a sealed box.

* (Rock paper scissors) is a hand game usually played between two people, in which each player simultaneously forms one of three shapes with an outstretched hand. These shapes are "rock", "paper", and "scissors".

Three Poems, Onfwan Fouad (Translated by Dr. Yousef Hanna)

Caffeine time!

•
Coffee is drunk leisurely
Don't race the time,
If the cup of the moment cools down
Listen
to chatter of meaning.
•
Coffee
Sows caffeine
In the streets of thought,
Mind out the sidewalk
Flooding with grass.
•
Coffee
Leaking birds of sorrow,
long soaring
Into sky of the fourth eye.
•
Coffee
Combs the hair of anger,
Pulls up the scream
Lengthens the plait of heart.
•
Coffee
Is a naughty girl,
Breaks the jars of speech
At the seclusion door.
•
Coffee
Nostalgic foam
In the jug of absence.
•
Coffee
A hand of solace
Extending to you from beneath the shroud.
•
Coffee
Bridle of embers
Pulls the time horse.
•
Coffee
An old turtle
Anticipates the moon.
•
Coffee
A black word
Written in blank
Notebooks of worry.
•
Coffee is a soap of lethargy
Rubbing the nerve of valium with a dry laugh,
Somewhat similar to
dead cat.

•

Paris mosquito

Mosquito in an open resort
Under the magnificent sun of Van Gogh
Sterilizing its needles of amino acids
Sewage pipes
drain Darwin's and Marx's Lectures into the Academy of Metaphysics
The flowing numbers through time faucets
are pouring into a sand basin
wherefrom fish of the desert have been extinct,
were caught by alive nets.
Paris mosquito,
embalmed,
begging for attention
She refused to snatch her wings
or install them outside the frame
In anticipation of a new task
I took out silver tweezers
And pulled out her eyes
Then I found out they were two blood jewels
The carved shell on the mirror
turned upside down
The earth exploded with sandy blossoms
The legendary bird entrusted with the clouds squeezing
Stirs the air inside his cavity
Red ants are been camping when the light is refracted,
smuggling genes into invisible eggs
Mosquito carry up over it
The dust of secret
To spread the cough sub form of ash pollen
The first emergence egg still
hatches at feet
of the forgotten tree.

.

(An accident near the head hole)

Bad things happen early in the morning
Other good ones come corrosively.
Well - as usual - I'll start with the bad,
I opened the window this day and found the nest upside down
To my surprise, I heard a cat meow
I looked inside and found the cat on the bed
Amusing himself with the remains of feathers stuck in his claws...
As for the good ones,
I never have a cat
My only cat died three days ago.
Another worse than good news;
is that I am in a dream.
The worst ever is
That I don't sleep.
- Bad margin -
While I am writing this text
A bird feather falls from my mouth
Manipulated by a weary breeze
Suddenly, an invisible being's meow sounded.
- Fuzzy margin -
There is no window in my inky place
I'm just a cellar
Devouring beings that see me.
